“The sprint was very hard fought. Kévin told me he was well replaced after the changeover with two and a half kilometres to go. It’s a shame that on the crossing of the big roundabout, I hit the skids and dropped back to around twentieth place. The finish was on an upward slope, so I went back up at the five hundred metre mark, but a rider fell off and I had to apply the brakes again to avoid a crash. There was already a break in front of me, so I kept sprinting. But I knew I could only catch the last place in the group ahead of me. It was the first sprint of this Vuelta Cyclista a España and there will be other opportunities to come”.
